Cathodic Protection - Rectifier

Description: The module describes bi-monthly inspection of rectifier units. Course content includes: OHMs Law, AC/DC voltage, safety procedures, testing intervals, inspection of rectifiers and other impressed current power sources. The course will cover the reverse switch current and switch diode; interface and remedial actions to correct deficiencies, unprotected pipeline evaluations and documentation. Upon completion of this module the student will be able to: Identify corrosion cells on a pipeline, will learn what corrosion is, different types of corrosion, and what conditions must be met for it to exist. The course describes corrosion control methods and in this lesson the student will study the three main methods used for controlling corrosion on pipelines. The course will cover the Principals of Cathodic Protection-the main principals of cathodic protection and how it works. The course explains the use of Galvanic Anodes and what their role is in cathodic protection of a pipeline, it will explain Impressed Current Systems- a way of cathodically protecting a pipeline, and it will describe various rectifier types. The student will learn about two types of rectifiers and the different function of each, learn about Rectifier Inspections and Efficiency and have a lesson in bi-monthly inspection procedures; the student will be able to perform the steps to inspect a rectifier.
