Introduction to OSHA for Construction
Description:
More than 100 million Americans spend their days on the job. Most of us go to our jobs confident that we will not face unnecessary danger and will return home safely. America’s workers have not always been able to trust that their safety and health were protected at the jobsite however. When fire swept through the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory in the spring of 1911, locked doors and missing fire escapes contributed to the deaths of 146 workers, most of them young women. And in 1935, approximately 1,500 workers—largely African Americans who had come north to find work—were killed by exposure to silica dust while building a tunnel in Gauley Bridge, West Virginia.
